Le Tour des Jardins: Millen garden

Eight Shreveport gardens will be featured on the 2015 Northwest Louisiana Master Gardener Le Tour des Jardins.

Here’s a photo glimpse of the garden of Roy and Camille Millen, who live at 8105 Captain Mary Miller Drive, in The Haven, and a quick chat with Camille:

How would you describe your garden to someone who has never seen it? “It is lush and free flowing; a more natural look.”

Do you strive for a particular style? “I try to create a strong, natural look but with fun and different aspects – like ‘yard art.’”

What should a visitor to your garden not miss? “My koi pond and other water features.”

Do you have a favorite plant or plants? “I love, love, love my hydrangeas and my ferns. The hydrangeas remind me of my grandmother’s garden and I love the draping and soft look of ferns.”

What’s the best garden advice/tip you’ve ever received? “Many, many years ago, a very sweet neighbor who taught me about starting a garden told me to take a water hose and lay out the design until it feels good to your eye.”

Why is having a beautiful garden important to you? “I love the beauty of nature, and I love to create beauty. I have a great sense of accomplishment.”
