Green Thumb seminar June 6 at rose center

Are you ready to exercise your green thumb?

Head out to the Gardens of the American Rose Center Saturday, June 6, for the third 2015 Green Thumb Educational Seminar.

Major topics will include disease resistant roses, soil testing and microsclimates.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • 9 a.m.: “Lesser Known, Disease Resistant Roses for Louisiana” by B.J. Abshire, Consulting Rosarian from the Acadiana Rose Society.
  • 10:10 a.m.: “Are You Guessing or Are You Soil Testing” by Ed Bush, horticulture professor, LSU AgCenter.  He will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of different soil mixtures. Please bring a sample of soil taken from several places around your garden.
  • 11:15 a.m.: “Microclimates” by Lou Osburn, local Consulting Rosarian and Master Gardener.

Refreshments will be served during breaks.

The American Rose Center is located at 8877 Jefferson Paige Road, Shreveport, and the seminar will be held in the Klima Rose Hall. Admission is free. Info: 318-938-5402.
