Plant sales, farmers markets on tap for fall

The season for gardening events is winding down, but those that are left, including the first-ever native plant sale at Briarwood, the Caroline Dormon Nature Preserve, are fantastic.

Ruston Farmers Market

The Ruston Farmers Market will be open for fall from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 through mid-December at public parking lot on the corner of Louisiana Avenue and S. Monroe St., downtown Ruston. Admission: free. Info: www.rustonfarmersmarket.org.

Cane River Green Market

The Cane River Green Market in Natchitoches will be open for fall from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 11, 18, 25 and Nov. 8 and 15 on the downtown riverbank. Admission: free. Info: www.canerivergreenmarket.com.

‘The Bulb Hunter: A Story of Seeking Out Botanical Treasures’

Chris Wiesinger, founder of The Southern Bulb Company, will be the guest speaker at the final Northwest Louisiana Master Gardener horticulture talk of the year. It’s scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 15 at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, 3015 Greenwood Road, Shreveport. Fall Bulb and Plant Sale

The Northeast Louisiana Master Gardeners will hold their Fall Bulb and Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 25 at Market at 7th Square, 1700 N. 7th St., West Monroe. Daffodil bulbs chosen for Southern gardens and other hard-to-find bulbs and plants will be for sale. Admission: free. Info: 318-323-2251.

Shreveport Farmers Market

The Shreveport Farmers Market will be open for fall from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 25 through Nov. 22 at Shreveport’s Festival Plaza, 101 Crockett St. Admission: free. Info: www.shreveportfarmersmarket.com.

Fall Heirloom Bulb and Plant Sale

The Northwest Louisiana Master Gardener Fall Heirloom Bulb and Plant Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 1 at Randle T. Moore Center, 3101 Fairfield Ave., Shreveport. Among the bulbs available will be Louisiana iris, crocosmia, rain lilies, oxblood lilies, crinums, snowflakes, starflowers, hardy gladiolas and a variety of narcissus. Admission: free. Native Plant Sale

Briarwood, the Caroline Dormon Nature Preserve, will hold its first native plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 1 at Briarwood, near Saline. A variety of native plants, including Louisiana irises, white buckeye, big leaf magnolia, swamp azalea and Louisiana blue star will be available. Admission: free.
