Tip of the Day — Sept. 11

If you don’t plan to plant a winter garden, suppress weeds and increase the fertility of your soil by planting a cover crop this fall, then tilling it four to six weeks before planting next spring. Options include grasses, such as rye and wheat, and legumes, such as clover or vetch.

Tip of the Day — Sept. 9

If a summer on the patio has caused a growth spurt in your houseplants, they may be potbound and require a new container. Be sure to finish repotting by mid-October so plants have a chance to recover before heading back to the stressful conditions inside for the winter.
