Tip of the Day — April 3

When vegetables harvested for their leaves, such as lettuce, mustard and kale, send up a flower spike, called bolting, it usually signals the end of their season. Once the plant puts its energy into flowering and producing seed, the quality of the leaves goes down. Pull them up and add them to the compost pile.
